LR oks CMJL (Nanjing)’s 7,500 lane-meter methanol-fueled ro-ro cargo ship

Recently, China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing)’s (“CMJL (Nanjing)”) newly developed methanol-powered 7500-lane-meter ro-ro cargo ship (CARGO RORO) successfully received an Approval in Principle (AIP) certificate from Lloyd’s Register (LR).

CMJL (Nanjing) actively promotes the development of key technologies for the entire process of high value-added ro-ro cargo ships from “research and development design to construction and delivery”. In response to market demand and international environmental protection regulations, it has jointly completed the ship design with China Merchants Industrial Technology (Shanghai) and LR.

The R&D team has mastered more than 10 key technologies, including ship line design optimization, stability control, efficient ro-ro channel layout, and long shaft propulsion system layout. Also, the R&D team has conducted multiple rounds of design optimization on the ship’s line, ro-ro system, cargo hold and methanol fuel tank layout to improve ship propulsion and cargo loading and unloading efficiency.

The ship is capable of meeting the requirements of both EEDI phase 3 and TIRE III, and is expected to become a new generation of large green and environmentally friendly ro-ro cargo ship with market competitiveness.
