An Asian joint venture shipping company orders for four LNG bunkering vessels at HD Hyundai Mipo

On November 8, HD Hyundai Mipo announced that it had received an order for four LNG bunkering vessels from an Asian shipping company, which are expected to be delivered by the end of October 2028.

The cargo capacity of this type of LNG bunkering vessel is 18,000 cubic meters, the total contract value is 514.8 billion won (about US$370 million), and the cost of a single vessel is about US$92.5 million.

HD Hyundai Mipo did not disclose the shipowner information, but according to Trade Winds, the shipowner of the order is a joint venture between Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) and Mediterranean Shipping (MSC).

Including this batch of new vessels, HD Hyundai Mipo has received orders for 7 LNG bunkering vessels this year.

On October 2, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had received a contract for an LNG bunkering vessel worth approximately US$86 million. The vessel has a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters and will be built by HD Hyundai Mipo and will be delivered to an Asian shipowner before May 2027.

On September 5, HD KSOE announced that it had signed a contract with a European shipping company to build two LNG bunkering vessels, with a total order value of US$185.4 million and a single vessel cost of approximately US$92.7 million. The vessel has a capacity of 18,000 cubic meters and is built by HD Hyundai Mipo. It is expected to be delivered before November 2027 and its owner is the newly established Hercules Tanker Management.
