SDARI and Zhangjiang Group Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement

On November 6, Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co. (Zhangjiang Group), to comprehensively promote the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and the shipbuilding industry, laying a solid foundation for accelerating the intelligent upgrading of the shipbuilding industry and the sustainable development of scientific and technological innovation.

SDARI and Zhangjiang Group have actively responded to China’s innovation-driven development strategy, and have injected new vitality into the scientific and technological innovation and industrial upgrading of Pudong District and even the whole country through increased cooperation.

SDARI stated that smart ships, as an important development direction of the future shipping industry, cannot be designed, built and operated without the support of AI technology. It is hoped that the two sides will take this cooperation as an opportunity to share resources and complement each other’s advantages, continue to promote the application of AI technology and the intelligent upgrading of the ship industry.

Zhangjiang Group said that this cooperation is a complementary advantage between the two sides in AI and shipbuilding industry, to further promote the in-depth integration of AI, robotics, chips and other enterprises in Zhangjiang area with shipbuilding industry, and to promote the acceleration of enterprise innovation and the landing of industrialization projects. In the future, SDARI will work hand in hand with Zhangjiang Group to contribute new strength to build a science and technology innovation ecology with international competitiveness.

As previously reported, as early as 2020, SDARI and Zhangjiang Group jointly built the AI+ Ocean Science and Innovation Center through strategic cooperation. Since its official inauguration at the end of 2022, the AI+Ocean Science and Innovation Center has ushered in nearly 30 resident enterprises, empowered more than 60 enterprises from the dimensions of business, technology, incubation, investment and financing, hosted nearly 50 ecological activities, and attracted many outstanding domestic and foreign enterprises to join Zhangjiang Science City and the AI+Ocean Science and Innovation Center.

In addition, the two sides have jointly organized four World AI Congress Ship and Marine Industry Professional Forums, completed the construction of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Ships and the AI Water Scene Test Site, and jointly created the first AI+Marine Industry Incubation Platform in the country, which has resulted in a series of impressive achievements.
