KMTC signs contract with HD KSOE for two container ships

On Nov. 7, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had signed a contract with an Asian shipping company for the construction of two container ships with capacity of 8,700 TEU.

The contract is valued at 317.6 billion won (about $230 million), with a single ship cost of $115 million, and is being built by HD Hyundai Samho, which is scheduled for delivery in March 2027. It is understood that the order shipowner for South Korea Koryo Maritime Transportation (KMTC).

Including this contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine has received orders for 171 ships (including an offshore facility) totaling $19.16 billion this year, exceeding its $13.5 billion annual target by 141.9 percent.
