On November 6, San Dian Shui New Energy Technology, a subsidiary of Wuhu Shipyard, held a steel cutting ceremony for Anhui Province’s first hydrogen powered law enforcement vessel.
The vessel is 22 meters long and uses advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology, achieving zero emissions and low noise, improving law enforcement efficiency and effectively reducing environmental pollution. The design of the vesse takes into account both law enforcement needs and navigation stability, providing strong support for water management.
As the first project of its kind, this vessel has been listed in the 2023 Provincial Major Industrial Innovation Plan for the green and low-carbon sector. The hull has completed the basic design, detailed design, and production design, meeting the conditions for commencement of construction.
Hydrogen energy, due to its clean, efficient and sustainable characteristics, has gradually become an important direction for the green development of the shipping industry and occupies an important position in China’s energy transformation layout. Anhui Province actively responded to the national strategy and issued the “Implementation Plan for Accelerating the High-quality Development of Inland Green Intelligent Ships and Characteristic Marine Engineering Equipment in Anhui Province”, which clearly proposed “accelerating the research and development of green power such as marine batteries, liquefied natural gas, methanol, and hydrogen”, vigorously supporting the development of new energy related industries, promoting the development of high-end manufacturing, and building “seven” strong provinces.
Wuhu Shipyard closely follows the strategic deployment, gives full play to the role of the leader of the industrial chain, integrates the upstream and downstream high-quality resources of the industrial chain, establishes a joint research team, and devotes itself to the research and development and manufacturing of hydrogen energy vessels.
At present, Wuhu Shipyard has overcome key technical difficulties such as “high-efficiency and low-cost membrane electrolysis Water-to-Hydrogen production technology”, proposed the adaptability evaluation method and intrinsic safety design theory of hydrogen-driven marine power system, developed high-power marine fuel cells and multi-energy coupled DC integrated power systems, established hydrogen-driven ship design, construction, evaluation system and standards, and carried out real ship application demonstrations, and the core performance indicators have reached the international leading level.
