On November 6, Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping (Group) Co., LTD (Guohang Ocean Shipping) issued an announcement on the proposed signing of a supplementary agreement for an 89,000 deadweight ton dual-fuel new energy bulk carrier.
The announcement disclosed that on December 28, 2023, Guohang Ocean Shipping’s subsidiary Guodian Ocean Shipping (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. (Guodian Hong Kong) or its designated company signed four “89,000 DWT Bulk Carrier Construction Contracts” with Wuhu Shipyard.
According to the announcement, on September 30, 2024, Guodian Shipping (Hong Kong) and Wuhu Shipyard signed the Contract Modification Agreement with Guoyuan Ambition Co., Ltd., Guoyuan Honesty Co., Ltd., Guoyuan Elegance Co., Ltd., and Guoyuan Wisdom Co., Ltd., wholly-owned subsidiaries of Guodian Hong Kong respectively. The contract stipulated that Guodian Hong Kong unconditionally transferred all the rights, obligations and responsibilities under the shipbuilding contract to the four newly established subsidiaries.
In order to better adapt to international and domestic environmental protection requirements for ships, Guoyuan Ambition and Guoyuan Honesty plan to sign a supplementary agreement with Wuhu Shipyard to convert the reserved methanol dual-fuel power system to a “methanol dual-fuel system installation”, with the additional cost for each ship not exceeding US$6.24 million.
Air China Ocean Shipping said that as one of the leading companies in China’s dry bulk water transport business, the company’s routes cover many countries and regions around the world.
In order to actively respond to policy requirements and fulfill its environmental protection mission, the company has installed a methanol dual-fuel power system on its newly built 89,000-ton bulk carrier, which can not only meet increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, but also take into account the economic efficiency of operations through the flexible ratio of fuel structure, reduce corporate operating costs and energy consumption levels, and improve corporate competitiveness, which has a certain positive impact on the company’s long-term development.
