On November 5, Jiangxi Jiangxin Shipbuilding successfully held the ignition and groundbreaking ceremony for two 740-TEU purely electric open top container ships built for Ningbo Ocean Shipping, a Chinese comprehensive shipping company, marking the construction of the world’s largest and China’s first batch of pure electric seagoing ships.
With an overall length of 127.8 meters and a beam of 21.6 meters, the ship adopts double-engine and double-propeller propulsion with a maximum speed of 11.5 knots. It is equipped with about 740 standard 20-foot containers and 10 box-type batteries as the power source, which can be charged by high-voltage shore power or lifted to realize quick power change when docking at the port. The ship is also equipped with a photovoltaic system to provide renewable energy, which enables zero-emission operation and loading/unloading at berth.
The 10,000-ton purely electric sea-going vessel has smart ship notations such as an intelligent integration platform, intelligent cabin and i-ship (I, M, No) class notation for autonomous navigation in open water; it has real-time ship peripheral view, all-weather navigation visual perception, route planning, unmanned driving, autonomous collision avoidance, driving mode switching and other functions, which is green, high-efficiency, and intelligent in one. It has functions such as real-time ship-surrounding view, all-weather navigation visual perception, route planning, unmanned driving, autonomous collision avoidance, and driving mode switching, integrating green, high efficiency and intelligence.
At the same time, the shore-based operation and maintenance center can carry out real-time monitoring of the ship’s equipment and remote control, bringing a brand-new experience for ship operation and navigation.
It is reported that the construction of this 10,000-ton purely electric high-end intelligent sea-going ship marks that Ningbo Ocean Shipping and even China’s coastal container ship operation will enter the zero-emission, purely electric era, which is of milestone significance in promoting the green, zero-carbon and high-quality development of China’s shipping industry.
