OMS Group, a leading provider of subsea digital infrastructure solutions, has signed a contract with Dutch shipbuilder Royal IHC for the construction of a series of next generation cable-laying vessels. The specific number of vessels has not been announced. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2027.
The first vessel, set for completion in the first quarter of 2027, features a length of 130 meters and a breadth of 22 meters. Certified to the AUT-IMS vessel class, it meets high standards for automation, thereby enhancing safety and operational efficiency. The vessel boasts a cable tank capacity of approximately 6,500 tonnes and a plough capability with a 3.3-meter burial depth, jetting capability, and bollard pull of over 100 tonnes.
Its Energy Storage System (ESS) optimizes energy use through advanced storage solutions, while a flexible generator setup allows for adaptable energy generation, improving overall efficiency. An energy-efficient HVAC system reduces consumption by utilizing an ENTHALPY wheel, and the optimized hull design enhances fuel efficiency and minimizes environmental impact.
OMS Group’s strategic investment in the new vessels will enhance its ability to serve rising telecommunications demands and deliver resilient global connectivity. Upon completion, the vessels will help address the urgent and growing need for modern, efficient solutions to keep pace with the rising demands of global connectivity. The vessels, which are designed with sustainability in mind, will enable OMS to deliver more efficient and sustainable solutions for their clients.
