DNV greenligths COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s Ammonia Dual Fuel 154,000DWT Shuttle Tanker Design

Chinese Shipbuilder COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s Ammonia Dual-Fuel 154,000DWT Shuttle Tanker Awarded Approval in Principle (AIP) by DNV.

Ammonia, as a highly promising zero-carbon fuel, is widely recognized as one of the key solutions to achieve the carbon neutrality target of the shipping industry because it does not produce carbon dioxide during the combustion process.

The ammonia fuel design project with AIP certificate not only represents the breakthrough achievement of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) in the field of clean energy ship design, but also is a powerful enhancement of the company’s future market competitiveness.

In recent years, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) has continued to increase its R&D efforts in the field of green ship design and clean energy applications, and a number of its design projects, such as LNG dual-fuel tankers, LPG dual-fuel shuttle tankers, purely electric intelligent tugs, and methanol dual-fuel shuttle tankers, have successively won AIPs from classification societies such as LR, DNV, and CCS.
