On October 31, Chinese shipbuilder Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry and Shenzhen Haihong Shipping jointly signed a contract for the construction of a 7,000 cbm LEG carrier. The signing of the contract marks that New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry has officially entered the field of gas carrier construction.
It is reported that the 7,000 cbm LEG carrier signed this time is customized by New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry for Shenzhen Haihong Shipping. It is the world’s first domestically designed and manufactured semi-refrigerated and semi-pressurized LEG carrier, suitable for loading: ethylene, ethane, propylene, propane, commercial propane, butane, propane/butane mixture, butene, anhydrous ammonia, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), butadiene, diethyl ether, isoprene (monomer), isopropylamine, ethylamine, vinyl ethyl ether and etc.
The LEG carrier is designed by Marine Design & Research Institute of China (MARIC). It has a total length of 115 meters, a beam of 19 meters and a designed draft of 6.1 meters with a deadweight of 6,200 tons. It adopts a single diesel engine, a single shaft and a single propeller design with a speed of 14.5 knots.
The LEG carrier can carry one type of goods or both. It will fly the Chinese flag and built in accordance with the specifications of China Classification Society. It is suitable for international unlimited navigation.
