SITC International exercises option for two 1,800TEU container ships

On October 29, SITC International Holdings Company (SITC International) issued an announcement to exercise options to build two container ships.

The announcement disclosed that SITC International’s wholly-owned subsidiary Haifeng Shipowner will exercise its option to build two container ships at Huanghai Shipbuilding for a total price of US$57.96 million (approximately RMB 414 million). The two ships will be delivered on or before June 30, 2027 and August 31, 2027, respectively.

According to the announcement, SITC International signed an order for 4+6 1,800TEU container ships with Huanghai Shipbuilding on June 29, 2024, but the order was not announced at that time.

The total price of the previous four container ships was about US$116 million, and these two container ships that exercised the option this time are the potion ships. The total order value for 10 container ships will reach US$290 million (about RMB 2.07 billion).

As early as 2022, SITC International has placed an order for 10 1,800TEU container ships from Huanghai Shipbuilding. The ships are 172 meters long, 28.4 meters wide, with a designed speed of 18.5 knots, equipped with high-efficiency propellers, energy-saving twisted rudders, SCR, desulfurization tower devices, 258 refrigerated containers, and meet Tier III emission requirements.

According to the official website, SITC International is a leading shipping and logistics company in Asia headquartered in Hong Kong. Its business areas include container liner shipping, ship management, ship brokerage, international freight forwarding, ship agency, customs declaration and inspection, bulk cargo consolidation, supply chain management, professional logistics, warehousing, container yards, terminals, logistics automation and informatization, intelligent equipment and other fields.

As of June 30, 2024, the company operates a total of 108 container ships, including 99 self-owned container ships; operates 78 routes, and its network covers 84 major ports in mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and India.

As of now, SITC International has a capacity of 182,000 TEUs, ranking 14th among global container shipping companies, according to Alphaliner data.
