COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) Delivers China’s Largest Electric Container Ship

Recently, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) successfully delivered “Zhongyuan Haiyun Lvshui II”, a 700 TEU electric container ship.

It is reported this river-sea direct pure battery-powered container ship is independently researched, designed and built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, with independent intellectual property rights. Meanwhile, it is also the largest electric ship project under construction in China and the first batch of green zero-carbon pilot ship type.

With an overall length of 119.8 meters and a beam of 23.6 meters, the ship is equipped with 36 replaceable marine containerized batteries as the power source, which is equivalent to the power capacity of more than 800 new energy vehicles.

The capacity of the loaded batteries is the largest in the world, and it is renewed by the box-type mobile power supply for power exchange, and the preset battery capacity is much higher than the existing international/domestic ship types, which is in the leading position in the world in terms of the number of containers and deadweight tons loaded on pure electric container ships, as well as in terms of battery capacity.

The ship has a battery capacity of more than 50,000 kWh and pure electric operation mode. It can realize zero emission, zero pollution, zero noise, and adopts the world’s first “change instead of charging” mode to greatly shorten the charging time and effectively improve the transportation efficiency.
