Soki Kisen ordered two bulk carriers from Nihon Shipyard

Japanese shipowner Soki Kisen recently ordered two bulk carriers in Nihon Shipyard, according to trade wind news.

Soki Kisen, based in Imaji, Ehime Prefecture, has signed a contract with Imabari Shipbuilding to build one ultramax bulk carrier and one handysize bulk carrier, both using conventional Marine fuels. Soki Kisen will receive 64,000 DWT ultramax bulk carriers in 2025 and handysize bulk carrier in 2027.

Kawakami said the new vessels are part of the company’s fleet renewal program. “We want to order more new vessels to replace some of them, but for now, the price of building is too expensive.”

Kawakami did not disclose the cost of the two bulk carriers. Clarkson data shows that ultramax bulk carrier costs $35 million each, while handysize bulk carrier costs $30.75 million each.
