Norway’s KNOT christens a 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker

On October 23, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) held a naming ceremony for the 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker built for Norway’s KNOT. The new vessel was named “HEDDA KNUTSEN”.

Classed by DNV, HEDDA KNUTSEN is 278.9 meters long, 47 meters wide, 24.9 meters deep and has a designed draft of 16 meters.

It is said that this series of shuttle tankers are innovatively researched and developed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Design & Research Institute, and have completely independent intellectual property rights.

Equipped with DP2 power positioning control system and bow loading system, it is capable of loading and unloading cargoes and oils under various complicated and harsh sea conditions. Meanwhile, it meets Tier3 emission standard, and the fuel consumption of the main engine can be reduced by 10 % with the same cargo capacity and speed, which significantly improves the economic and social benefits.

Since the first cooperation with KNOT in 2012, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) has successively received orders for 11 shuttle tankers from the company, and the first 5 units have been successfully delivered. HEDDA KNUTSEN is the sixth shuttle tanker project built by Zhoushan COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for KNOT. The first five sister vessels have won high praise from shipowners for their excellent operating performance.
