Seaspan Energy welcomes the second 7,600 cbm LNG bunkering vessel

On October 23, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) under CIMC Enric in China, held a naming and delivery ceremony for the second 7,600 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessel built for Canada’s Seaspan Energy. The new vessel was named “Seaspan Lions”, which is the seventh liquefied gas vessel delivered by CIMC Enric this year.

It is reported that there are three 7,600 cubic meter LNG bunkering vessels in this series. The first vessel was successfully delivered in August this year. “Seaspan Lions” delivered this time is the second vessel in the series.

“Seaspan Lions” has a designed total length of 112.8 meters, a beam of 18.6 meters and a designed draft of 5.1 meters with a cargo capacity of 7,600 cubic meters, and a designed speed of 13 knots.

The vessel is equipped with a DC power distribution system, powered by three dual-fuel generators and thrusted by two 1600KW full-rotation electric thrusters, which improves economic efficiency while also taking into account environmental performance.

For the design of the LNG Bunker Vessels, Seaspan worked closely with the Canadian-based team at VARD Marine to incorporate emerging technologies resulting in a decrease in emissions and underwater noise. The design is focused on safe, efficient, and economical refueling of multiple ship types with an ability to transfer to and from a wide range of terminals. The design will allow the vessel to engage in ship-to-ship LNG transfer and coastal and short-sea shipping operations.

This series of three vessels is named after iconic West Coast mountains the Seaspan Garibaldi (“Nch’ḵay̓”), the Seaspan Lions (Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn), and the Seaspan Baker (Koma Kulshan).

Seaspan Energy is a highly experienced LNG vessel operator, with a fleet of hybrid ferries that operate primarily on LNG. The company is the first company in Canada to provide ship-to-ship LNG bunkering solutions. Seaspan Energy’s mission is to offer low-carbon solutions for ship owners looking to decarbonize their operations and transition to cleaner marine fuels. It will strategically deploy its vessels with a focus on the West Coast of North America.
