Horizon Tankers took effect on 2 MR Product tankers at Changhong International

Greek shipowner Horizon Tankers has again placed an order for two MR product tankers with Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard (Changhong International), bringing the total number of tankers ordered to six.

In May this year, Changhong International signed an order for 4+1+1 50,000 DWT chemical/oil tankers with Horizon Tankers, and the first batch of shipbuildings will be delivered in the second half of 2026 and 2027. According to TradeWinds, Horizon Tankers has exercised the option of two 50,000 DWT product tankers, and all six new ships are now in effect.

This 50,000 DWT chemical/oil tanker is independently developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) with full intellectual property rights.

Equipped with MAN 6G50ME-C9.6-HPSCR TIER III main engine, the MR tanker has an overall length of 182.75 meters, a beam of 32.20 meters, a depth of 19.10 meters, a design draught of 11.00 meters with a design speed of 14.5 knots.

And the design not only has excellent energy-saving and environmental protection performance, but also fully considers its comprehensive performance throughout its life cycle and complies with the strict emission standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In March this year, Changhong International also received an order for two 115,000 DWT LR2 product tankers from another old customer, Greece’s NAVIOS. This is Changhong International’s second cooperation with NAVIOS after signing an order for 10 5,300-TEU container ships in 2021 and four 115,000 DWT tankers in 2023.

Currently, Changhong International hand held orders for 12 MR tankers and 16 LR2 tankers.
