Transocean Announces $193 Million Ultra-Deepwater Drillship Contract

Swiss offshore drilling contractor Transocean announced a one-year contract for the Deepwater Conqueror with an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The contract is expected to commence in October 2025 and contribute approximately $193 million in backlog, including additional services.

The new one-year contract for “Deepwater Conqueror” is expected to begin in October 2025 and is expected to bring in approximately $193 million in orders, including additional services. According to Transocean’s July 2024 fleet status report, the drillship has been working for Chevron in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico since April 2023 and will continue to do so until April 2025.

“Deepwater Conqueror” was completed and delivered by South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) (now Hanwha Ocean) in 2016. It can accommodate 240 people and is capable of working in water depths of 12,000 feet (3,658 meters) with a maximum drilling depth of 40,000 feet (12,192 meters).

This contract is another drillship contract signed by Transocean recently. On September 10 this year, Transocean announced that it had signed a $232 million contract with British energy giant BP for “Deepwater Atlas”, which will be deployed in the Gulf of Mexico. This is also the first eighth-generation drillship added to the company’s drilling fleet.

Transocean is a leading international provider of offshore contract drilling services for oil and gas wells. The company specializes in technically demanding sectors of the global offshore drilling business with a particular focus on ultra-deepwater and harsh environment drilling services and operates the highest specification floating offshore drilling fleet in the world.

Transocean owns or has partial ownership interests in and operates a fleet of 34 mobile offshore drilling units, consisting of 26 ultra-deepwater floaters and eight harsh environment floaters.
