DSIC delivers 16,000 TEU container ship equipped with the world’s largest Type B LNG tank

On October 21, Chinese shipbuilder Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation(DSIC) delivered a 16,000TEU container ship “Maria Cristina”, which was built for MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) and equipped with the world’s largest Type B LNG fuel tank.

It is reported that “Maria Cristina” is the first-built container ship for MSC’s eight LNG dual-fuel 16000TEU container ship project. It has a total length of about 366 meters, a width of 51 meters and a depth of 30.2 meters.

Equipped with 13,000 cbm type B LNG fuel tank made of 9% nickel steel, the ship realizes the independent development of the whole process of type B LNG fuel tank in China for the first time, filling the domestic technology gap. During the LNG fuel bunkering operation, the bunkering operation team efficiently and successfully completed the work of inerting, cooling, replacement and bunkering of type B LNG fuel tank, and the actual time of the overall bunkering cycle was shortened by about 66 hours compared with the original plan.

Meanwhile, the ship adopts a new design concept of “safety, economy and environmental protection”, equipped with dual-fuel main engine, generator and boiler, and the main engine is equipped with green environmental protection systems such as Icer-Diesel system and exhaust gas economizer, which fully meets the latest environmental emission standards. Through the optimization and energy-saving measures such as high-efficiency propeller rudder and pre-propeller energy-saving device, the energy efficiency design index is 65.5% lower than the baseline.

The successful delivery of the ship has further enhanced DSIC’s market position and brand effect in the field of large container ships, consolidated DSIC’s close cooperation with the world’s mainstream liner companies, and provided solid support for CSSC brands to play a leading role in the international community.
