Hong Kong Marine Department’s two explosive cargo carriers were kicked off constrution in Guangzhou

On October 15, Huachang International Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, kicked off constrution of two steel explosive cargo carrierss for the Hong Kong Marine Department.

It is a single-hull high-speed dangerous goods carrier, which can safely navigate under class 6 sea state and class 7 wind. The explosive carrier is about 33m long, 7m wide, 3.6m deep with a maximum speed of 18.5kn.

Equipped with two cargo holds, each of which is designed to be anti-static and explosion-proof, the explosive cargo carrier is capable of carrying Class I dangerous goods.

After completion, the new shipbuilding will serve Hong Kong waters, carrying explosive cargoes for the Hong Kong Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) for engineering construction and mountain development.

It is reported that the two new explosive cargo carriers are expected to be completed and put into use in the first half of 2026.
