SES-Tech received an order of shaft generator systems for six 325,000 DWT VLOCs

With the continuous cultivation of overseas ship market, CSSC Silent Electric System (Wuxi) Technology (SES-Tech), a global provider of electrification and intelligent solutions for waterborne transportation, is recognized by overseas shipowners.

SES-Tech recently signed an order with Hengli Shipbuilding (Dalian), a subsidiary of Hengli Heavy Industry, for the supply of six ship sets of shaft generator systems for 325,000 DWT very large ore carriers (VLOC).

This series of VLOCs was developed and designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) and built by Hengli Heavy Industry, jointly serving Singapore shipowner Winning International Group.

VLOC is specially designed for the transport of bulk ore, which plays an important role in the shipping industry, supporting the development of global mining and steel industries with its high cargo capacity and cost-effective transport mode.

Compared with Capesize vessels in the Baltic Sea, “WinningMax” is expected to reduce energy consumption by nearly 50% per ton nautical mile; At the same time, this vessel type meets the methanol fuel reservation and is equipped with 12,000 cbm methanol fuel storage tank. In the future, the use of green methanol can realize the “zero carbon” operation of the whole voyage.

According to previous reports, in September 2023, Beihai Shipbuilding and Winning International signed construction contract for two WinningMax ore carriers, plus these newly built six ore carriers, Winning International is currently building eight “WinningMax” ore carriers. With these VLOCs, Winning International is building a VLOC fleet to responsible for the ocean transport of bauxite and iron ore in Guinea, and increasing the continuous investment in its green fleet to achieve its core strategic objectives of sustainable development.
