Huangpu Wenchong released a variety of green ship types and signed LOT with Tianjin Southwest Maritime

On October 10, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a new ship type press conference in Shanghai. Based on building green ships, Huangpu Wenchong independently develops a variety of ship types and helps the shipping industry to reduce carbon emissions with practical actions.

At the press conference, DNV and CCS issued AiP certificates to “Honghu SWAN” series container ships; ABS, BV, CCS, NK issued AiP certificates to “WHALE” series bulk carriers, and DNV issued AiP certificates to LPG carriers.

At this press conference, Huangpu Wenchong launched a number of self-developed green, energy-saving, and low-carbon new ship types. Including SWAN series 1300TEU ice-classed container ships, 2400TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships and 3500TEU and 5000TEU container ships with a variety of alternative fuels; 82,500 DWT of bulk carriers and 85,000 DWT of bulk carriers with multiple alternative fuels of the WHALE series; and the newly developed 43,000 cbm/45,000 cbm of liquefied petroleum gas & liquid ammonia carriers.

SWAN series container ships have obtained DNV and CCS AiP certificates.

Honghu SWAN 1300TEU ice-classed container ship is mainly designed for European regional operations, which can meet the requirements of 1A or 1C ice area, can load 45-foot containers, and also supports a variety of scale box types, and can only use shaft generators for sea navigation conditions, and the reduction rate of the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is more than 40%.

The 2400TEU methanol dual-fuel powered container ship of the same series adopts multiple optimized line shapes, equipped with twisted rudder and rudder ball, and propeller front duct energy-saving devices, with fuel consumption as low as 40 tons/day at a speed of 19 knots; Using WinGD 6X62DF-M-S1.0 methanol dual-fuel engine, the methanol endurance can reach 10,000 nautical miles.

The larger 3500TEU container ship has particularly low fuel consumption compared with ships of the same class, and has excellent resistance performance in the low speed model, with a variety of alternative fuel design options. The ammonia dual-fuel design launched this time is designed according to the characteristics of ammonia and improves the safety of personnel operation.

The 5000TEU container ship is the latest type of product developed by Huangpu Wenchong, which has the advantages of SWAN container ships such as economic scale, large packing capacity and low fuel consumption, and is a super energy-saving ship type. The daily fuel consumption of this type of ship is 10% lower than that of the market ship type, and the EEDI reduction rate is more than 50%, and it can also be equipped with a variety of advanced energy-saving technologies such as gas film drag reduction technology and cargo hold fan energy-saving control technology.

Two types of WHALE series bulk carriers

Based on the highly recognized 85,000 DWT bulk carrier of WHALE, Huangpu Wenchong once again launched the WHALE 82,500 DWT bulk carrier and the 85,000 DWT liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered bulk carrier to the market.

These two new products have obtained AiPs issued by ABS, BV, CCS and NK, meet the requirements of various new regulations, and can choose to be equipped with a variety of energy-saving technologies such as shaft generator, wind rotor/sail, and gas layer drag reduction and have a variety of alternative fuel design schemes.

43,000 cbm/45,000 cbm of liquefied petroleum gas & liquid ammonia carrier

This type of ship has obtained the AiP certificate issued by DNV, and is the first new self-developed medium-sized gas carrier by Huangpu Wenchong.

This gas carrier adopts a wide-body design, with a length of less than 180 meters, good port adaptability, a design speed of 16 knots, and 3 pairs of IMO A-type independent cargo tanks.

The gas carrier adopts the latest WinGD 6X52DF-A-1.0 ammonia dual-fuel main engine propulsion, equipped with shaft generator, and can only use shaft generator under conventional sea navigation conditions. The system design combines the operation characteristics of gas carriers, and pays attention to the economy and convenience of ship bunkering, maintenance and opration.

It is worth mentioning that, based on many advanced design highlights, this type of ship has received a warm response from the market as soon as it was unveiled. At the press conference, Tianjin Southwest Shipping Co., Ltd. signed a construction intention contract with Huangpu Wenchong, which is expected to become the first customer of this ship type.
