CIMC SOE breaks ground for Scale Gas’s 12,500 m3 LNG bunkering vessel

On October 8, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) held a steel cutting ceremony for a 12,500 m3 LNG bunkering vessel built for the Spanish shipowner Scale Gas.

As the International Maritime Organization (IMO) keeps revising the greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy for vessels, and clearly puts forward the requirements of improving the energy-efficient design of new vessels and reducing the carbon intensity of vessels. LNG has become one of the most widely-applied new clean fuels for vessels because its greenhouse gas emission during combustion is significantly lower than that of traditional fossil fuels.

Under the current background of accelerated transformation of green and low-carbon shipping, CIMC SOE is grasping this historical opportunity, making full use of the current favorable timing of the booming shipping market, and actively investing in capacity to promote the transformation of the global shipping industry to a more environmentally friendly direction.

The vessel was designed in-house by CIMC SOE for concept and production design. The vessel has an LNG loading capacity of 12,500 cubic meters, adopts an efficient electric propulsion system, and has excellent handling performance, which can meet the high requirements of LNG bunkering operations for precise control of the vessel.

In addition, the design of the vessel is in strict compliance with the latest norms and standards currently in force for ships and gas transportation and refueling, to ensure the safety and environmental performance of the vessel, in order to adapt to the evolving global shipping market.
