TMS Cardiff Gas charters out newest addition LNG carrier “Athos LNG”

TMS Cardiff Gas, owned by Greek shipping king George Economou, announced that the 174,000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Athos LNG”, recently delivered by South Korean shipbuilding company Samsung Heavy Industries, has entered into a multi-year charter contract. Athos LNG will be leased by Osaka Gas International Transport, a subsidiary of Osaka Gas.

“Athos LNG” is the latest addition to TMS Cardiff Gas’ fleet and the first of TMS Cardiff Gas’ new LNG carriers in the Samsung Heavy Industry series.

With a cargo hold capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and equipped with MEGA thrusters, shaft generators and air lubrication systems, it is an example of the owner’s commitment to innovation and sustainability to create a green tomorrow.

Together with Athos LNG, which joined the fleet in early October, TMS Cardiff Gas operates a total of 18 large LNG carriers, nine of which are owned, according to VesselsValue data.

In addition, TMS Cardiff Gas currently has ordered 10 new vessels, including six large LNG carriers and four 88,000 cbm very Large Liquid Ammonia carriers (VLAC).

It is understood that the four 88,000 cubic meter VLAC, all built by Samsung Heavy Industries, were ordered in December 2023 and January 2024, respectively, and are expected to be delivered by June 2027 and November 2027, respectively.

Founded in 2011, TMS Cardiff Gas expects to more than double the size of its own fleet over the next three years.
