Asian Shipowner Places Order for 2 LNG Carriers at Samsung Heavy Industries

On October 2, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it has signed a construction contract for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with an Asian shipowner.

The new vessels are expected to be delivered one after another from April 2027, with an order value of about $510 million.

Samsung Heavy Industries did not disclose the name of the owner, which is reported to be Malaysia National Shipping Corporation (MISC). The new LNG carriers have a specification of 174,000 cubic meters, and both will be used in a long-term contract with Petronas after delivery.

Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has received orders for 24 vessels worth $5.4 billion so far this year, achieving 56% of its $9.7 billion target for the year. By vessel type, the order book includes 21 LNG carriers, two VLACs and one shuttle tanker.

To date, Samsung Heavy Industries has $31.9 billion in orders on hand, with production slated for three years from now.
