On September 27, Wuhu Shipyard successfully signed a contract for the project of deep sea experimental vessel for the Institute of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The signing of the vessel marks a solid step forward in China’s marine science and technology endeavors and deep-sea exploration.
This deep sea experimental vessel is a key project of science and education infrastructure in the 14th Five-Year Plan approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, which will strongly guarantee the basic research on the laws of the deep sea physical field and comprehensive experiments of new technologies and equipment at sea, and accelerate the transformation and application of innovative achievements.
The vessel is characterized by outstanding features and advanced comprehensive performance, with a design gross tonnage of about 4,900 tons. It can accommodate a crew of 60 and has a global sailing capability with an endurance of 15,000 nautical miles, an economic speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots.
With rich experience in the installation of scientific research equipment and ship vibration and noise reduction, Wuhu Shipyard has strong construction capability and solid accumulation of core technology, which has been praised by many shipowners.
The vessel is equipped with spacious laboratories and operation decks, which can meet the needs of scientific research in multiple disciplines and fields. Meanwhile, with its advanced scientific research equipments and strong investigation and operation capability, this experimental vessel can go farther into the sea and deeper into the seabed, revealing more unknown mysteries of the ocean.
