Recently, 1320TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship and 26000DWT methanol dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker developed by Wuchang ship heavy industry group (WS) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) have successfully obtained the Approval-in-Principle (AIP) certificates issued by China Classification Society (CCS).
The AIPs awarded of this two new ship types signifies that WS has made new progress in the field of green and intelligent ship research and development.
1320TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship is equipped with methanol/fuel oil dual-fuel power system, with a range of 8,000 nautical miles in fuel oil mode and 4,000 nautical miles in methanol mode, and a design speed of 18 knots.
This container ship has the advantages of large cargo carrying capacity, fast performance and excellent environmental protection design. Meanwhile, based on this ship type, WS has also released two ship types, one is LNG dual-fuel and the other is conventional power with desulphurization tower.
Equipped with two methanol fuel tanks, the 26,000DWT methanol dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker can meet the full range fuel demand of the main engine, auxiliary engines and boilers of the whole vessel.
With a endurance of up to 8,000 nautical miles, it is a low-carbon/zero-carbon alternative fuel smart vessel. In addition, the chemical tanker is available with a sail-assisted option and an LNG dual-fuel for owners to choose from.
This 26,000DWT chemical tanker has the following four main features such as, excellent operational performance, high degree of intelligence, green methanol dual-fuel design and lightweight structure.
Furthermore, a “New Energy Ship Power Technology Joint R&D Center” was inaugurated in WS. The center was jointly set up by WS and Wuhan University of Science and Technology, aiming to build a high-quality platform for industry-university-research cooperation, scientific and technical transformation, professional personnel training, innovation and entrepreneurship, and industrial incubation in the field of new energy ship power technology, and to help China’s dual-carbon strategy and the construction of a strong shipbuilding nation.
It is reported that the center will focus on diesel-electric hybrid, gas-electric hybrid, new energy fuel system and other new energy ship power system to carry out systematic scientific research, new product development and transformation of results, providing strong, all-round scientific and technological and human resources support for WS to realize new energy ship repair and power system research and development.
