Hudong-Zhonghua delivers last LNG carrier of COSCO Shipping’s PetroChina LNG Transportation Project

On September 26, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC) delivered the third 174,000 cbm large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Kongdong” in advance for the second phase of COSCO SHIPPING PetroChina International LNG Transportation Project.

Kongdong” is the second large LNG carrier delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua in September, and the sixth large LNG carrier delivered after ‘Shaolin’, ‘Wudang’ and ‘Kunlun’ in the first phase of the project, and ‘Emei’ and ‘Huashan’ in the second phase. So far, a total of six vessels in the first and second phases of the project have been delivered.

The successful delivery of “Kongdong” is a typical case of sincere cooperation among the three state-owned enterprises, namely, CSSC, COSCO Shipping Group and PetroChina Group, which have made a new contribution to China’s “dual-carbon” strategy and the global green shipping industry.

“Kongdong” is a mainstream large-scale LNG carrier in today’s world, independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua with full intellectual property rights. With an overall length of 295 meters, a beam of 45 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters and a speed of 19.5 knots, the LNG carrier is classed by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS).

It adopts the world’s latest generation of dual-fuel low-speed propulsion power system, equipped with advanced environmental protection devices, with daily fuel consumption of less than 100 tons.

It can meet the strictest standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under gas or oil mode, featuring low evaporation rate, low energy consumption, high environmental protection, high versatility, excellent economy and etc.

In addition, it has good ship-shore compatibility, flexible route adaptability, reliable berthing at most of the world’s land-based shore stations, and also has the function of ship-to-ship sea transfer and transportation.

It is understood that on June 30, 2020, Hudong-Zhonghua and Cosco Shipping Energy Transportation and PetroChina cooperated for the first time by signing a construction project for the first three 174,000 cbm LNG carriers. On June 18 of the following year, the two parties signed another three 174,000 cbm LNG carriers in Shanghai.
