China’s First Methanol Dual-Fuel Container Ship Launched in Yangzhou

On September 25, the first 16,000 TEU series methanol dual-fuel container ship of COSCO Shipping Lines constructed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) was successfully launched.

The ship has an overall length of 367 meters, a beam of 51 meters with a maximum loading capacity of 16,136 TEU. It is equipped with domestic WinGD world’s first set of methanol dual-fuel main engine, methanol dual-fuel generator, ALFALAVAL world’s first set of methanol dual-fuel boiler, as well as methanol fuel barge and supply system.

The ship achieves the EEDI III energy efficiency target, which reduces carbon emissions by about 8.9% of the corresponding total and is 52.8% lower than the IMO carbon baseline.

As the first methanol dual-fuel large container ship in China, it is an important part of the green methanol industry chain built by COSCO Shipping Group to meet the demand of green shipping corridor, and it is also a key project that actively conforms to the new trend of the development of green, low-carbon and intelligent shipping, and continuously promotes the construction of green fleet.
