HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), a shipbuilding intermediate holding company of HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, said Wednesday it has secured a 403.9 billion-won (US$303.7 million) order to build six midsized container ships from a European shipper, according to Yonhap.
HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, one of HD KSOE’s three shipbuilding units, will construct the vessels at its shipyard in Ulsan, some 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The vessels will be delivered to the undisclosed shipping company by August 2027, it added.
This is HD KSOE’s second public order for new vessels this month.On September 5, the company announced that it had signed a contract for the construction of two 18,000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessels with Hercules Tanker Management, a newly established private shipping company of marine bunker refueler Peninsula. The order, worth a total of 247.9 billion won (about $185.4 million), is also being constructed by HD Hyundai Mipo and is expected to be delivered in November 2027.
So far this year, HD KSOE has obtained orders to construct 156 vessels worth $17.3 billion, exceeding its yearly target of $13.5 billion.
HD Korea Shipbuilding, a subholding company of shipbuilding, oil refining and machinery conglomerate HD Hyundai, has three domestic units under its wing — HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
