Stena’s high-end ro-ro ferry completes sea trials

On September 20, China Merchants Jingling Shipyard (Weihai) Co. Ltd. CMJL (Weihai) completed all the sea trials of the high-end ro-ro ferry (W0278) built for Stena ship owner.

On July 22, 2021, CMJL (Weihai) and Stena RoRo signed the contract for the 11th and 12th high-end ro-ro ferries (W0275/W0278). Due to the impact of the epidemic, the contract negotiation and signing of the project was conducted in the form of a video “cloud signing”.

These two ro-ro ferries are owned by Stena RoRo and chartered by Brittany Ferries of France with a new class notation for shore power.

Classed by DNV, this ro-ro ferry has an overall length of 194.7 meters, a beam of 27.8 meters, with a service speed of 23 knots and a passenger capacity of 1,300.

Equipped with two 550 cbm LNG storage tanks, it meets Tier III emission requirements for NOx. As a new generation of E-Flexer series vessels, the vessel is also equipped with 10MWh battery and shore power system, which is a typical representative of safe, comfortable, green and environmentally friendly ro-ro ferry.

It is reported that W0278 will be delivered in January 2025.
