Maran Gas Maritime takes delivery of a 174,000 cbm LNG carrier

Maran Gas Maritime, part of the Angelicoussis Group, Greece’s largest shipping company, announced that Hanwha Ocean (formerly Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, DSME) has taken delivery of the 174,000 m3 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Maran Gas Kimolo”.

“Maran Gas Kimolo” is the first of eleven 174,000 m3 LNG carriers that Maran Gas Maritime has ordered from Hanwha Ocean since November 2021, with the remaining ten to be delivered between 2024 and 2027.

In November 2021, Maran Gas ordered two LNG carriers from Hanwha Ocean with an order value of approximately US$411 million. The second vessel is expected to be delivered by November 2024.

It is understood that Angelicoussis Group’s cooperation with Hanwha Ocean began in 1994, and its Maran Gas Maritime last placed an order with Hanwha Ocean in March 2023. Angelicoussis ordered two 174,000 m3 LNG carriers from the shipyard at a price of around US$256.2 million each, which at the time was the highest price ever paid for an LNG carrier in this class.

Maran Gas Maritime manages 46 vessels and has 12 new vessels on order. Before the delivery of the Maran Gas Kimolo, Maran Gas Maritime’s fleet has taken delivery of two other 174,000 cbm LNG carriers, the Maran Gas Nice and the Maran Gas Antibes, and has signed a charter agreement with TotalEnergy of France.
