On September 10, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), began construction of the first LNG dual-fuel LR tanker for Singaporean ship manager East Pacific Shipping (EPS).
It is reported that in June 2023, GSI signed a contract with EPS for the construction of two 110,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel tankers with an option for two vessels of the same type. in February 2024, EPS exercised the option for the two vessels. The first 2 tankers are independently designed and developed by GSI and are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026.
This 110,000 DWT LNG dual-fuel tanker is independently developed by GSI, with an overall length of 250 meters, a beam of 44 meters, a structural draught of 14.7 meters, and a sub-structural draught speed of 14.5 knots.
Equipped with LNG dual-fuel power system, its emission standard meets IMO TIER III standard, and its EEDI energy efficiency index reaches Phase III. Therefore, it is a modern green LR2 tanker with energy saving, environmental protection and high efficiency.
EPS has recently signed a contract with another China shipbuilder New Times Shipbuilding for the construction of four 18,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel-powered containerships and 4+3 8,400 TEU LNG dual-fuel-powered containerships under chartering contracts, a news release said.
