On September 12, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), delivered the 174,000 m³ LNG carrier “Rex Tillerson”.
General Manager, Central Asia & Europe of MOL’s LNG Carrier Overseas Programs Department, Deputy General Manager of CSTC Marine Business Dept. 3 and Deputy General Manager of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding signed the vessel delivery document.
Rex Tillerson is the first of four LNG carriers to be chartered in April 2022 under QatarEnergy’s “Hundred Ships Program” with Japan’s MOL. The agreement is the first charter contract under QatarEnergy’s “Hundred Ships Program”.
Rex Tillerson is the latest Hudong-Zhonghua’s self-developed fifth-generation “Changheng Series” 174,000 m3 LNG carriers, and are specially tailored to the technical standards of QatarEnergy’s largest LNG fleet in the world.
It combines the latest design concepts, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental performance, the most forward-looking, and the essence of Hudong-Zhonghua’s previous four generations of LNG carriers. With an overall length of 299 meters and a beam of 46.4 meters, it adopts the latest generation of double stern fin lines and is equipped with a number of low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment, and is classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS).
The vessel was named in a grand christening ceremony on Sept. 10, the “Rex Tillerson” was named after the former Chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil as a tribute to his life-long accomplishments in the energy sector.
In addition, on the same day, Hudong-Zhonghua also delivered a 24,000 TEU ultra-large container ship “Ever Aeon” to Evergreen Marine.
Designed and built by Hudong-Zhonghua, Ever Aeon has an overall length of 399.99 meters, a beam of 61.5 meters and a depth of 33.2 meters, making it the largest ship in the world in terms of container capacity.
Equipped with hybrid Scrubber desulfurization unit, it adopts the world’s latest green, energy efficient, safe and reliable design solutions.
