On September 3, five types of vessels, including 27,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership, 20,000 TEU ammonia dual-fuel containership, 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership, 103,000 cbm very large ethane carrier (VLEC) and 93,000 cbm very large liquid ammonia carrier (VLAC), developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) , were awarded Approval-in-Principle (AIP) certificates in SMM trade fair in Hamburg, Germany.
The GREEN SEALION 27500 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership was awarded AIP certificate by DNV. During the research and development process, both parties analyzed and discussed the challenges and risks brought by the oversizing of container ships, and formed a practical solution.
GREEN SEALION 27500 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership is the world’s largest containership developed by SDARI, with excellent loading capacity of up to 27,500 TEUs, breaking the world record of the maximum number of containers that can be loaded. The ship has been designed to improve energy efficiency by optimizing the hull lines.
Equipped with LNG dual-fuel system, it fully meets the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Phase III carbon emission reduction requirements, meets the CII excellent rating standard for carbon intensity of ship operation, and achieves zero emission in the port through high-voltage shore power technology.
The 20,000 TEU ammonia dual-fuel containership was awarded AIP certificate by LR.
The ship adopts the newly developed ammonia dual-fuel WinGD 8X92DF-A-1.0 as main engine, equipped with ammonia fuel tanks. It has been designed in an innovative way to minimize the impact of possible ammonia leaks on the crew, while ensuring the safety and reliability of the ammonia fuel filling, storage and supply system. It comprehensively considers the combination of loading all kinds of sizes and types of containers, and can load 21,018 standard containers and 2,100 refrigerated containers.
The 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership was awarded AIP certificate by China Classification Society (CCS).
GREEN SEALION 16000 is a new generation of Super Panamax large containership developed by SDARI, which realizes green, low-carbon and environmental protection design. It adopts a wide-body design, shortening the length of the ship and reducing the construction cost, while also effectively reducing the use of ballast water during operation. It not only enhances the loading capacity of the actual operation, but also avoids frequent adjustment of ballast water and reduces the workload of the crew, and further reduces the environmental risks caused by ballast water and sediment.
The 93,000 cbm VLAC was awarded the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) AIP certificate at the SMM trade fair.
The 93,000 cbm VLAC is the world’s largest liquid ammonia carrier upgraded from the VLGC, which can meet the demand for long-distance transportation of liquefied gases cargoes such as LPG and liquid ammonia. It can be powered by ammonia dual-fuel or LPG dual-fuel propulsion solution in accordance with the owner’s requirements.
The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of the VLAC meets the requirements of three phases of energy efficiency, which significantly reduces the level of operational pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. It is equipped with a shaft generator, which is used in regular sea voyage conditions without the need to run a diesel generator; and it has excellent key technical indicators such as its deadweight, speed and oil and gas consumption, which are highly competitive in the market.
The 103,000 cbm VLEC was awarded an AIP certificate by Bureau Veritas (BV).
The VLEC is the largest ethane carrier in terms of capacity based on the 230 meter overall length limit, which mainly carries ethane cargoes, but also ethylene, LPG and other cargoes. It adopts aluminum alloy as the independent liquid cargo tank material of ethane carrier for the first time, which has the advantages of low oil and gas consumption, small evaporation rate, and good operation and maintenance economy. In addition, it adopts ethane dual-fuel main engine propulsion, and uses shaft generator for regular sea voyage conditions, with excellent key technical indexes.
