T.S. Lines and HPWS Signed Intention Order for Two 4300 TEU Containerships

Recently, China’s Taiwan-based shipping company T.S. Lines once again joined the ranks of shipowners booking new containerships.

T.S. Lines has signed a letter of intent(LOT) with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding (HPWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), for the construction of two 4,300 TEU containerships with an estimated order value of US$120 million, which are expected to be delivered in the second half of 2028, industry sources said.

Recently, more and more regional liner operators have chosen to order medium-sized containerships from Huangpu Wenchong.

Including the two new ships signed on the first day of SMM in Hamburg 2024 (on September 3), Arkas Group, Turkey’s largest container ship owner, has ordered at least six 4,300 TEU containerships from HPWS.

So far this year, Thailand Regional Container Lines (RCL) has also cumulatively ordered eight 4,300 TEU containerships from HPWS, which will be delivered one after another between 2027 and 2028.

It is understood that 4300TEU containership is the largest containership undertaken by HPWS at present, which marks that Huangpu Wenchong has stepped up to a new level in the field of containership construction.

Developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), the ship has the advantages of economy and practicality, large loading capacity, and is equipped with desulphurization and denitrification equipments, which meets the requirements of the latest environmental protection specifications.

Excluding the intended order from T.S. Lines, so far, HPWS’s hand-held orders for 4,300 TEU containerships have increased to 14, making it the shipbuilder with the largest number of orders for this type of ship in the world.
