Arkas and Hammonia sign orders for up to 10 vessels with Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding

On September 3, 2024, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding (HPWS) signed a contract with Turkish shipowner Arkas Holding A.S. (Arkas) for two 4,300 TEU container vessels.

This medium-sized container vessels undertaken by HPWS belong to the main ship types for the company’s future development, and it has already undertaken 14 of them, which has gradually formed the advantage of batch construction. With this signing of the new vessels, HPWS has become the shipbuilder with the largest number of orders for this type of vessels in the world.

At present, HPWS has formed a batch production line of feeder container vessels with specifications of 1,100 TEU, 1,500 TEU, 1,900 TEU, 2,700 TEU, 3,000 TEU and 3,400 TEU, etc., and the self-designed product “HongHu” feeder container vessels (1,900 TEU and 3,000 TEU) launched on the basis of the construction experience have gained the favor in the market.

Arkas is a well-known comprehensive group of companies in Turkey with logistics and shipping as its main business, and its Arkas Line is a liner company specializing in container transportation, with its business scope covering the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea and other regions.

This is the first cooperation between the two sides, marking the first time that HPWS, on behalf of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has entered the Turkish newbuilding market.

The 4300TEU container vessel is the representative product of HPWS to enter the market of medium-sized container vessel construction, and the undertaking of this new vessel further consolidates the company’s advantage in this field.

In addition, on the same day, HPWS and Hammonia of Germany also held a signing ceremony for four 13,500 DWT multipurpose heavy lift vessel, which includes options for another four vessels of the same type.

Classed by DNV, the 13500 DWT multi-purpose heavy lift vessel has an overall length of 149.99 meters, a beam of 25.6 meters, a design draft of 6.8 meters with a service speed of 15.3 knots.

It is equipped with 2 sets of 450-ton cranes, which can flexibly load various sizes of heavy equipment to meet the owner’s diversified loading requirements for various heavy and special cargoes. In addition, it also meets the latest emission requirements, and its design is characterized by green, energy-saving, environmental protection, etc.
