Two 7,000 TEU containerships join RCL group

On September 3rd, Thailand RCL group took delivery of the second ship “ITTHI BHUM” and the third ship “HEMMA BHUM” of a series of 7,000 TEU containerships built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS).

Designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI), ‘ITTHI BHUM’ and ‘HEMMA BHUM’ have an overall length of 272 meters, a beam of 42.8 meters, a depth of 24.60 meters, a design draught of 15.00 meters, and a design speed of 21.00 knots.

Classed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) , both ships are equipped with open type desulphurization towers to meet TIER III specification, which are green and environmental friendly containerships.

According to reports, the first containership of the series “Hemma Bhum” was successfully delivered in April this year, and this delivery of the two ships on the same day fully reflects the high level of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides.

It is understood that RCL was established in 1979 as a Thailand container transportation company. Listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1988, the company currently owns and operates a fleet of 41 ships, comprising a wide range of container ship specifications. In addition, the company has another fleet to support its own cargo transportation.

RCL fleet size ranges from 400 TEUs to 12,000 TEUs. Strict manning and maintenance standards for the entire RCL fleet are provided by an experienced technical team in RCL Shipmanagement, a subsidiary of RCL. The ship management company and the entire RCL-owned fleet have achieved ISM certification since 1998, well ahead of the mandatory 2002 ISM deadline.
