Longship ordered up to 8 6,000 DWT General Cargo Vessels in Dutch Waterhuizen Shipyard

On September 2, Dutch short sea operator Longship announced on its official website that it has signed a contract for the construction of four 6,000 dwt general cargo vessels with Dutch shipyard Waterhuizen with an option for an additional four ships. This newbuilding project will be a collaboration between GS Projects and Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS) at the Dutch shipyard in Waterhuizen and Groot Ship Design.

The PMAX ECO TRADER vessels are specifically designed to meet Longship’s requirements for custom shipping solutions.

The new PMAX ECO TRADER series is scheduled for delivery starting beginning 2026. These 6k tdw vessels are designed for highly efficient fuel consumption and advanced eco-friendly technologies. The initiative represents a significant step towards greener maritime operations, reflecting Longship Group’s commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation in the shipping industry.

Longship was first founded in 2009 and has since then claimed a notable market position in the European shortsea trade. Longship is a ship operator and logistics company with roots in Norway and the Netherlands. Originally established under the name NedNor BV the company rapidly became a relevant tonnage supplier and carrier in European shortsea.

The company operates around 20 vessels in the 3,700 dwt to 10,000 dwt range, including four “ultra-low” emission 8,600 dwt general cargo vessels ordered last year from Atlas Shipyards in Turkey and two 3,700 dwt general cargo vessels booked earlier this year from Waterhuizen’s shipyards.
