Beihai Shipbuilding steel cut for EURONAV’s first 319,000 DWT VLCC

On September 2, Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.(Beihai Shipbuilding) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) held a grand steel cutting ceremony for EURONAV’s first 319,000 DWT VLCC in the joint plant of Shipbuilding Area I.

The 319,000 DWT VLCC is the first cooperation between Beihai Shipbuilding and EURONAV, which is also another important breakthrough and innovation of Beihai Shipbuilding in the field of oil tanker construction. It was designed independently by China Ship Design & Research Center Co., Ltd, showing the deep strength of Beihai Shipbuilding in the field of green and low-carbon ship design.

With an overall length of 339.50 meters, a beam of 60 meters, a depth of 30.30 meters and a structural draught of 22.50 meters, the VLCC’s technical indicators have reached the international advanced level and meet the stringent requirements of the third phase of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).

The VLCC can be equipped with two 6,000 m³ ammonia fuel storage tanks in the future, which demonstrates the environmental protection concept of green shipbuilding and lays a solid foundation for the realization of “zero-carbon” operation.

The opening of this project marks that Beihai Shipbuilding has realized serialization and scale development in the field of building three main ships, namely bulk carriers, containerships and oil tankers.
