Celsius takes delivery of new LNG carrier from Samsung Heavy Industries

Celsius Tech, a joint venture between Danish shipping company Celsius Shipping and Hong Kong Fleet Management, recently announced on its social media that the 180,000 cbm liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, which was built by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries for Celsius’ subsidiary Celsius Tankers “Celsius Greenwich” has been named and delivered.

The “Celsius Greenwich” is the fifth of ten 180,000 cbm LNG carriers ordered by Celsius from Samsung Heavy Industries, equipped with MAN ME-GA engines and the GTT-developed Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The remaining five units are expected to be delivered between 2024 and 2026, according to the Celsius website. The first four sister vessels are named “Celsius Geneva”, “Celsius Giza” and “Chelsea Glarus”, “Celsius Gandhinagar”, which were named and delivered in July 2023, October 2023, January 2024 and May 2024, respectively. The vessels are all managed by Celsius Tech.

The latest LNG carrier to be named and delivered, the Celsius Greenwich, will enter into a long-term charter with UK energy giant BP, according to VesselsValue. The first four sister vessels were chartered by Clearlake Shipping, a subsidiary of energy trading company Gunvor, and signed long-term charter agreements in October 2021, according to VesselsValue.
