On August 31st, the shipowners SEASPA and MSC took delivery of the 9th 16,000 TEU containership built by Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding under Yangzi Jiang Shipbuilding Group. The ship is named “MSC SIMONA” and will be put into MSC fleet operation soon.
It is reported that the containership is about 366.0m in overall length, 51m in beam and 17.0m in structural draught, with a speed of 22 knots, and it can carry up to 16,616 standard containers.
The containership was kicked off construction in early July 2023, keel laid in mid-December of the same year, launched at the end of May 2024, and successfully completed the sea trial in mid-August, with all the test results in line with the design standards. The construction was successfully completed under the cooperation of the shipowner’s on-site supervision team, DNV classification society, and the staff of the shipyard.
It is understood that with the successful delivery of “MSC SIMONA” ship, marking the successful conclusion of nine traditional fuel 16000TEU containerships built by Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding for SEASPAN and MSC shipowners.
In addition, MSC’s project of 12 16,000 TEU dual-fuel containerships is under orderly construction at Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding. By deepening the cooperation, both parties will continue to utilize their respective advantages and experience, to jointly promote the prosperous development of the shipping industry.
