Purus Marine orders 2 LPG carriers from HD Hyundai Mipo

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced on Aug. 28 that it has signed a contract with an Asian shipping company for the construction of two 45,000cbm dual-fuel liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers, with a total order value of KRW 197.3bn (US$147.4m).

The new shipbuildings will be constructed by HD Hyundai Mipo and is expected to be delivered to the owner by May 2027, when it will be chartered by US-based Koch Fertiliser for a price and period yet to be determined.

In industry news, the owner behind the order is UK-based shipping company Purus Marine. With the finalization of the order for 2 new LPG carriers, Purus Marine has ordered 6 medium-sized gas carriers from HD Hyundai Mipo, with another 4 units placed in 2023 at a cost of US$69 million each, and to be delivered in 2025 (2 units) and 2026 (2 units), respectively.
