ASP placed an order for two 50,000 m3 MGCs at Jiangnan Shipbuilding

On August 26, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), formally signed a contract for the construction of two 50,000 m3 medium-sized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)/liquefied ammonia carriers (MGCs) with the Vietnamese shipowner Asia Pacific Shipping (ASP).

The signing of this order marks the first time for ASP to build a liquefied gas tanker project in China, and also marks an important step for Jiangnan Shipbuilding to develop the Southeast Asian market.

It is a medium-sized fully-cooled liquefied gas carrier (Panda 50P) independently developed by Jiangnan Shipbuilding, with a total tank capacity of 50,500 m3.

This MGC can carry a variety of petrochemical products such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), anhydrous ammonia (NH3), propylene, butadiene and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). It adopts Jiangnan’s own patented VS-Bow’s line technology, combined with propeller rear cap fins CAPRO, which makes the speed and fuel consumption indexes reach the international advanced level. It is equipped with a dual-fuel main engine and shaft generator to meet the latest environmental requirements for SOx and NOx emissions, as well as the low carbon requirements of EEDI-3.

It can ensure the integrity, availability and confidentiality of the vessel’s data; at the same time, it has comprehensively considered the risk of cybersecurity and set up corresponding protective measures, which can effectively resist the risk of cyberattacks and data leakage, and thus has been awarded the class notation of CR.

The MGC has the advantages of being more economical, more environmental friendly and more flexible, with a range of more than 10,000 nautical miles.

As an upgraded product of 40,000m3 MGC, this MGC has further improved its fast performance and energy consumption indexes on the basis of 10,000m3 increase in cabin capacity, which enhances its market competitiveness.

Based on the concept of Integrated Product Development (IPD), Jiangnan Shipbuilding’s R&D team has prepared solutions for Ammonia fuel, Oboard Carbon Capture and Storage (OCCS), and Intelligent Ship (JNIS), laying the foundation for the subsequent diversified choices of the shipowners for the application on real ships.

Official website information shows that Established in 2009 in Singapore, Asia Pacific Shipping (S) Pte Ltd operates from Malaysia’s outer port limit, facilitating oil trading with China, the Philippines, Vietnam, the Maldives, India, Indonesia and Thailand, which specialization lies in trading marine fuel-petrol.
