SWS made another breakthrough for the construction of different ships in the same dock

On August 22nd, the No.1 dock door of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was opened again. With the opening of the dock door, H1571, the tenth 7,000 TEU containership built by SWS for Seaspan Corporation and H1561, the sixth 7,000 TEU containership built for T.S.LINES, were successfully launched, and thus SWS’s No.1 Docking has successfully completed the launching task for all 7,000 TEU containerships.

The status of H1571 and H1561 has been improved to a certain extent compared with the former vessels, which has laid a solid foundation for further shortening the construction cycle of 7000TEU containership terminal of SWS and realizing a new breakthrough of rhythm production mode.

On the same day, the 180,000 DWT dual-fuel bulk carrier H1462 built for NYK and the 114,000 DWT Aframax product tanker H1573 built for Thenamaris successfully completed floating, thus SWS’s No. 1 dock once again realized the production of different ships in the same dock.

According to SWS production line plan, from the second half of 2024, SWS will enter the mode of mixed line construction with 114,000 tons Aframax product tanker as the main product, and 7,000 TEU containership and 180,000 tons bulk carrier and 8,600 cars PCTC constructed in parallel.

SWS will conduct in-depth research on the “container ship, bulk carrier and tanker” co-located construction mode, combine the characteristics of each type of ship, optimizes the logic of dock construction on the basis of the experience of former shipbuilding,
continuously pushes the process forward and implements the requirements of rhythm production mode.
