On August 23rd, CMA CGM AMAZONIA, a 13,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel large containership series No. 6 built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), was named and delivered to CMA CGM Group of France.
“CMA CGM AMAZONIA is designed by Marine Design and Research Institute of China (MARIC), with an overall length of 336 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 26.8 meters, a design service speed of 21 knots, and a maximum capacity of 13,200 TEUs.
The containership adopts LNG dual-fuel power system and is equipped with LNG liquid cargo tanks adopting MARK Ⅲ liquid cargo containment system with a capacity of 14,000 cubic meters. It is equipped with the world’s advanced CMD-WinGD9X9DF-2.0 main engine of CSSC’s own brand and the global new generation of Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling (ICER) system, which reduces methane escape in gas mode by 50% and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28%.
There is a huge windshield installed in the bow, which can save 2%~4% fuel consumption during actual operation. In addition, there are energy-saving deflector installed on the stern which can improve the propeller propulsion efficiency, reduce energy consumption by about 1.5%, and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions, featuring flexible container, leading technology, energy-saving and environmental protection, etc.
It is reported that “CMA CGM AMAZONIA” is the final ship of the series, the total construction period of the containership is 70 days shorter than the first unit.
Since the beginning of this year, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has shown a good trend of building large LNG carriers and ultra-large containerships. At present, there are 19 large LNG carriers under construction, and the company plans to complete 8 ships in a year, which will set a new record for annual completion and delivery. The world’s largest 24,000TEU dual-fuel ultra-large containership No. 1 and No. 2 are scheduled to launch within the year. The last ship of the 24,000 TEU conventional fuel containership series has launched in mid-June and is scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter.
