GSI Receives Order for 2 Tankers from French Shipowner

Recently, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd, (GSI) a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC) signed an order for two 40,000 DWT chemical/product tankers with Socatra of France.

The two vessels in this project are MR Ⅰtankers independently developed and designed by GSI, with an overall length of 180 meters, a beam of 32 meters and a depth of 18.3 meters, which meets the Tier Ⅲ emission requirements of the IMO and the requirements of EEDI Phase Ⅲ standards, and is a green, energy-saving and low-carbon vessel.

The ship owner, Socatra, is a leading French oil shipping company with interests in bulk transportation, onshore petroleum product storage and release, and tourism.

Socatra and GSI have been on a cooperative journey since 2023, when Socatra, together with Hafnia, ordered four 50,000 DWT methanol dual-fuel MR tankers, which are under orderly construction.

This project deepens the cooperation between GSI and Socatra, consolidates GSI’s leading position in the European market, and further strengthens GSI’s influence in the tanker market.
