Guangxi Shipbuilding Converts A Jack-up Drilling Platform to Workover Platform

On August 18, the world’s first R-550D jack-up drilling platform “Guozhan”, which was repaired and retrofitted by Guangxi Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (Guangxi Shipbuilding) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), left the dock and headed for the operation area.

It is reported that the repair and retrofit of the platform “Guozhan” includes the main structural reconstruction, pipeline replacement, cable laying and protection, overall painting and so on.

“Guozhan” platform is the world’s first R-550D jack-up drilling platform converted into a new type of jack-up workover platform.The main body of the platform is triangular, measuring 97.95 meters in total length, 79.55 meters in width and 8.23 meters in depth, with an operating water depth of more than 120 meters and a drilling depth of more than 9,000 meters.

The platform has three triangular truss legs with a total length of 170.22 meters and is equipped with an aluminum helicopter platform, featuring a wide operating range, strong lifting capacity, large variable load, good environmental adaptability and other high-performance characteristics.

The successful completion and shipment of the platform “Guozhan” marks another solid step for CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding in the field of repair and retrofitting of offshore equipment and the promotion of the extension to the high-end value chain.
