SW cut steel for an 18,500DWT product oil/chemical tanker

On August 20, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co.,Ltd (“WS”), an affiliate of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, successfully cut steel for the No.5 18,500DWT product oil/chemical tanker, which is built for Athenian Sea Carriers, a Greece-based company.

Classed by LR, this 18,500DWT product oil/chemical tanker has an overall length of 149.8 meters, a beam of 22.8 meters, a depth of 12.7 meters, a design draft of 8.5 meters, with a range of 10,000 nautical miles and a speed of 13 knots.

It has 6 pairs of cargo holds, which are specially coated, and is a Class II & III product oil and chemical tanker with unlimited navigation area, which is mainly used for the transportation of product oil and chemicals. Its performance parameters boast lower fuel consumption, higher speeds and larger loads compared to similar vessels.

The project adopts variable frequency electric pumps with more flexible cargo handling and better economy, as well as LNGready, methanolready and ICE1C notations. In addition, it is equipped with the latest 6.6KV high-voltage shore power system, unmanned cabin, which is a high-end new generation of chemical tanker with leading technology and green features.

It is worth mentioning that, as the 5th in the series of 18,500DWT product oil/chemical tankers, the design team has fully absorbed the feedback from the partners during the construction process of the previous four vessels, and optimized the installation of outfitting parts on the basis of refining and improving the 3D model, and continued to improve the pre-outfitting rate.
