SMDERI secures a batch order for domestic methanol-fueled medium-speed engines

On August 20, Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research institute (SMDERI) held a technical seminar on methanol-fueled medium-speed engines in Wuhan. During the seminar, SMDERI and Wuhan Innovation River-Sea Transportation signed a contract for the batch of methanol-fueled medium-speed engines.

This seminar aims to promote the demonstration application of methanol fuel engines for inland and coastal ships, continuously increase the proportion of new energy ship capacity in the shipping industry, and jointly contribute to the construction of green shipping in China.

It is understood that the contracted CS21M methanol-fueled medium-speed engine, with power covering 1-2MW and rated speed of 1,000r/min, adopts the methanol in-cylinder direct-injection technology route, which can realize a higher methanol substitution ratio, and reduce 60% of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and 99% of sulfur oxides (SOx) emissions.

The product attracted wide attention from the participants for its high fuel substitution ratio and green environmental protection. In the future, the two sides will also take this signing as an opportunity to launch more in-depth cooperation, and jointly build a demonstration project in the field of new energy ships to help the development of green transformation of the national shipping industry.

In recent years, SMDERI has developed green and low-carbon ship power products such as natural gas engines, methanol engines, ammonia engines, etc., as well as supporting green and low-carbon fuel supply systems and after-treatment systems, to provide diversified green and low-carbon solutions for various types of inland and ocean-going ships, and to cooperate with domestic and foreign shipowners and shipyards to jointly promote the sustainable and high-quality development of the shipping industry.
