CCS greenlights ZEME’s conversion project of an existing ship’s main engine to a methanol dual-fuel engine

On August 19th, China Classification Society (CCS) held a certificate issuance ceremony for the first conversion project of an existing ship’s main engine to a methanol dual-fuel engine in Ningbo. CCS Zhejiang Branch issued the product certificate of converting methanol dual-fuel main engine and the certificate of preventing air pollution for the main engine of the vessel “Lingxian 1” for Zhejiang Energy Marine Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. (ZEME).

With the decarbonization process and the vigorous development of marine methanol fuel, as a liquid fuel at room temperature, methanol is more secure than ammonia, hydrogen, etc., and has become the future development direction of new green fuel for the shipping industry.

The issuance of this certificate marks another important achievement of CCS in helping the localization of China’s green energy core equipment, and a solid step forward in guaranteeing China’s green energy security. Besides, it is also a successful example for CCS to work together with the industry to implement the new development concept, serve to build a new development framework, respond to energy saving and emission reduction, and help China’s “double carbon” goal to be implemented, and promote the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry of marine products.

Since the beginning of the project, CCS Zhejiang Branch and CCS Qingdao Branch have actively helped the customer to carry out technical assistance such as conversion program development, approval, conversion on-site inspection and testing as well as emission inspection, and coordinated to solve a series of technical problems in the testing, and successfully completed the methanol dual-fuel engine conversion and inspection work.
